The State of Labor

The report reviews significant developments in the labor movement since Labor Day 2005 and recommends policies that advance the First Amendment rights of America’s workers. The theme of this year’s report is “The Rise of Public Sector Unions.” According to the report, the nationwide percentage of unionized workers continues to fall. This decline in membership, however, is drastically reversed in the public sector. The report predicts that, in just a few years, a majority of union members will work in the public sector, as has already occurred in 24 states and the District of Columbia.
