The Endangered Species Act at 40: Species Profiles: Palau Fantail Flycatcher

The Palau owl, Palau ground dove, and Palau fantail flycatcher are clearly cases of data error. With the possible exception of the owl, these birds were likely never imperiled throughout their range, although by the time of the Endangered Species Act’s passage the owl was doing fine. While the populations of these birds likely declined, the decline was limited, both geographically and temporally.
