Top Five U.S. Policy Priorities for the Arctic in 2016

2016 marks the final year of the United States’ chairmanship of the Arctic Council. The U.S. must maximize its leadership role in the Arctic region. The United States’ top five policy priorities will be shaping the policy agenda in the region and working closely with Finland which will take over chairmanship in 2017, developing a comprehensive Arctic policy at the 2016 NATO Summit in Warsaw, promoting economic freedom in the Arctic, increasing America’s ability to provide adequate response in the Arctic, and Russian militarization of the Arctic.
