Annual Privatization Report 2016: Air Transportation
For most of aviation’s history, airports were government enterprises. In 1987 British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher’s government privatized the former British Airports Authority via an initial public offering (IPO) of shares. That stimulated what became a global phenomenon of airports being shifted, in whole or in part, to the private sector. This report provides a roadmap for air transportation privatization and includes a detailed synopsis of the associated barriers and benefits to doing so.
